Rejoice!!

...if that's how this picture makes you feel...but to me, this event wreaks of fishiness...i'll let the conspiracy theorists go nuts rather than compromise the generally regarded opinion that i am a sane person, but it will be interesting to see how this event is viewed in 10 or so years...



...but it stinks on several levels for me...yes, saddam was criminal and deserved to die, he was a bad person and the world is better off without him, all that crap...i suppose part of it is the cliche 'two wrongs don't make a right'...how does this help the cause of the US at all?...that implies that the US is responsible for his death and if you don't think that we orhestrated this thing to tee, well, we see things differently...the most ironic quote i heard today, from the british foreign secretary (or something to that effect)of all people, was 'we are opposed to capital punishment but we respect the decision of sovereign countries'...hah!!
...there's also the fact that friends and families of iraqis who were killed under saddam's rule won't see their day in court, as there is/was still a laundry list of crimes he is accused of that he will never have to stand trial for, even if it would have been a bit of a morality lecture for saddam, it probably would have meant something for those friends and families if he at least had to acknowledge the pain he caused them...
...anyway, i don't usually talk politics on this blog but i just get the sense that there is a lot more to this event than people are aware of at the moment...i could be wrong, it could just be the sight of someone (however bad they may be) being slipped into a noose that doesn't sit well with me...
...on the bright side, now that this iraq thing is all wrapped up, maybe W will get back to bringing to justice that guy who actually had everything to do with september 11th (which is why we're having this discussion in the first place, right?)...what's his name again?

...in non-political news, chieko and i are off to her folk's house in niigata tomorrow to spend a few days over new years...hopefully there will be nice snowy pictures on this blog in a few days time...i'm also hoping to get out on a snowboard for the first time in a few years...so there won't be any posts around here for a few days, but that's nothing new...
