...i'm dissapointed at the quality of this picture since it gets much less clear even if you blow it up a little bit...i need to learn how to use my camera more effectively in low-light settings...there were actually three of these clouds...i've seen funky clouds before kind of hanging down from the cloud ceiling, but these seemed different to me...i haven't seen anything on the news, and i think this would be a newsworthy thing, so i don't know...what do you all think? here's a picture of the storm that spawned whatever these things were, looking out toward the ocean...
...today was a very surreal day weatherwise...we had the usual stopping and starting of rain 10 to 15 times, and of course a bit of hail, saw a rainbow (no pics of that though), thunder and lightning kicked in during the afternoon along with these more severe rain storms which continue...and i thought i had to worry about earthquakes in japan...i suppose that would be icing on the cake for this day of oddity...

Casey, excellent capture of that picture. My son and I were at the beach last year and while in the water saw a funnel cloud about 3 miles away that was dropping. While interesting, it was also one of the scarier things I've seen. I also was on the first level of an apartment I lived in about 10 years ago when a microburst (tornado like activity) hit. I could feel the building shake and cars were moved in the parking lot.
Anyway, enjoy the weather, but as they say on cheesy FM radio stations, "keep an eye in the sky and your ear to the hits".
yeah ma nature can be amazingly interesting and scary as hell in the same breath...i was definitely a bit pumped up by the situation...as were my students...i think it was a first for all of us...

Weather has been awesome here on Horseneck lately. WE had a big storm roll through last night that has been pounding us with 35 mph sustained winds. i'll send you some pics.
