...i went into work, where i spent most of the time looking out the window of my office at the ever-changing weather...here we have wind, sun, rain, and hail...this was taken about 5 minutes after the above picture, and about 5 seconds before the wind shifted and blew everything that wasn't bolted down off of my desk...note the flag about to rid itself of the flagpole...
...after leaving work i headed down to the beach...i reckoned, rightly, that a day full of non-stop 30-50 mph wind would have churned things up...i was not disappointed...i was greeted by a very nice sunset, for a a little while at least, and i was expecting the hand of god, or the flying spaghetti monster, to descend from the clouds...but there were no deities to be seen, just some honking big waves...these were nasty...about 12 feet tall, and just ripping up the sea floor as they rumbled ashore...the sand here is very fine, and these waves were brown with it...one would not have lasted long out there...
...here you can see some big ones rolling in...i was really in heaven (to keep with the minor biblical theme) here...the wind was blowing really hard, i was getting pelted with sand and rain drops...i was hard pressed to leave, but it started raining pretty good, and it was getting dark, so i headed home...
...just for a bit of perspective, this is the same breakwater pictured above (if not the exact one, at least the same beach), taken last spring on a calm day...
...the winds and rain seem to have died down for the evening, which i suppose is a good thing though i am sad to see it go, but i have a feeling there will be plenty of winter storms to occupy me...chieko refuses to deal with me since i returned from the gym and have yet to take a shower, so i best be heading off...

don't you ever see those crazy people being swept up by those "cool" waves!?!?!??! what are you thinking standing on the beach in that kind of weather!!??!?! huh?!!??!? quit it.

Very cool pix. I heard about that tornado. That's the downside with those quick thunderstorms. It was cool to see the pix of the beach. For some reason I have this picture in my mind of Japan being nothing but Tokyo or small rural mountain. I never think of it as being surrounded by water.

i know what you mean, despite the fact that japan is an island, seems that it's most distinctive features are the cities and mountains...there are some spectacular beaches though and i hope to see more of them...a lot of the coastline is too rugged for swimming but very beautiful...a lot of it is also overrun with industry and polution though...seem to be somewhere in the middle around here...
